Second Saturday returns to downtown Peru

By Blair Yankey - byankey@perutribune.com

Organizers of Peru’s Second Saturday are gearing up for another big night.

Live entertainment will be provided tomorrow evening by the Moon Pigeons, who will perform outside the courthouse, and 76 City Changers, who will entertain at Hairtique and Fountain Blues on Broadway.

In addition, Hometown Federal Credit Union will host a Junior Achievement Car Show and provide free popcorn.

There will also be a station where free corn on the cob will be handed out while supplies last, according to Steve Anderson, chairman of the ReDiscover Downtown Committee.

Second Saturday starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m.

Anderson said he’s received a lot of positive feedback from businesses owners who participate.

“We’re seeing about 1,000 people every month,” Anderson said. “We’d like to see that grow, but we’re satisfied with what we have. Businesses seem to be benefiting from it ... we’d obviously like to see it get bigger, and I know next year we’ll have everything a bit more organized so that it’ll grow rather fast next spring.”

Anderson said downtown restaurants are probably seeing the most benefit, “but businesses are picking up and the fact that we’re bringing in a lot of people from out of town, that’s a plus too.”

He said ReDiscover Downtown Peru appreciates any and all feedback about the events – and looks forward to hearing from the community so they can consider ways to improve.
